I did some research, and found someone who wrote a script to install it, but I do not know how to run installation scripts either, or whether I should and the author admitted foreign language (non-english) mistakes may be in the script, so, I didn't want to try that. Obviously, I could extract the file to a folder, like "/opt", or my "Home" folder, but, then what? I tried to extract the folder and got an unspecified error using LM Ark? I could use the "alien" package converter to convert it to ".deb", but I have found that on more complex programs like this, that it doesn't usually work. It would be really nice if there was a ".deb" install file, or a "ppa" to install this very popular and very useful program. Only I do not know how to install this properly on my Linux Mint 17 kde. So, I downloaded the newest version in a file, called "UMS-4.0.3-Java7.tgz". Then, I noticed that there is another more feature rich media server called "Universal Media Server". I highly recommend the PS3 Media Server if you want an easy simple way to stream multi-media files from your computer to any DLNA device, like smart TV's, smart DVD players, smart phones, etc. I have installed "PS3 Media Server" which was simple to install and works well with my Samsung smart blu-ray dvd player.

I love Linux Mint 17 KDE, and I am now experimenting with and playing around with free media servers. Thanks for taking time to reply.Hi Everyone, I have been learning as much as possible about Linux, in particular Linux Mint. These are concrete troubleshooting steps but I hope it sends you in some directions to check. Once you resolve the ability to at least see the MSS for media sharing, you may want to explore using Tversity or Twonky (30 day free trial) for their enhanced media sharing abilitities. I also have "UPNP not available" on my PS3, and I'm able to see the MSS just fine for media sharing (although I don't use the MSS media sharing abilitites - or lack thereof for interacting with the PS3).Ĥ. Although confusing, "UPNP not available" in your network setup on your PS3 should not have any impact on your ability to find media servers. Kind of a stupid question but something that can be missed.ģ.

Have you enabled the ability for the PS3 to search for media servers. Enabling guest accounts on your MSS has no meaning to the PS3 whatsoever and is irrelevant in resolving any issues between the MSS and the PS3.Ģ. You can't mount drives on the PS3 via SMB or otherwise. While the MSS supports SMB,the PS3 doesn't. If anyone has a clue or some troubleshooting path suggestions I could take, this would be appreciated.ġ.

I even create a "Guest" account on the HPMS with full access to all the shares and still nothing. Maybe there is some process I need to enable on the HPMSS or configuration? The HPMS is fully accessible via my PC. I am kinda lost here, since I have tried all the obvious (Wiki steps and the steps by steps issues documented on this forum). Each time I check the setting on the PS3, the only thing wierd I can notice is "UPnP : not available". Everything is Enabled on the PS3, and media folders are shared on the HPMS. I have tried with both a Cisco 851 and a Linksys WRT54G router, but without success. When I choose "Search for Media Servers", the PS3 cannot see my HPMS.īoth PS3 and HPMS get an IP address, can surf the Internet and such. I finally decided to register and join this community since it looks like there is a lot going on and hopefully someone will be able to troubleshot my issue.
